2021 is going to be a boom for 5G connectivity and countries like India are also expected to get indulged in this new high-speed connectivity as well. Maximum of the 5G tech is also going to use in the smartphones. The smartphone industry is one of the main and highly competitive industries in the tech market. And being so competitive, the competitors always tries to be the first-move maker.
Hence, as soon as 5G arrives, smartphones in India will adopt 5G compatibility at a volatile pace. We are already seeing the effect of this. For instance, MediaTek has announced the Density 800U 5G mobile processor in India which was originally launched back in August 2020. Along with that, Realme is seeming to use this SoC in its upcoming Realme X7 in India to get prepared for the upcoming 5G. And it’ll not be a thing to wonder if many smartphones with mid-range SoC like Dimensity 800U, Snapdragon 765G, and 750G gets launched in 2021.
I this article, I am going to discuss the Mediatek Dimensity 800U SoC, talking about its specifications, performance, AnTuTu Scores, and how is it in comparison to the Snapdragon 765G. So let’s gets started.

The Dimensity 800U has been fabricated over TSMC’s first-gen 7nm N7 fabrication that comes out to be a [retty decent mid-range lithography. On the CPUY front, there are 8 cores in total. Among which 2 are performance cores, based on Cortex-A76 @ 2.4GHz and 6 are Cortex-A55 efficiency cores @ 2.0GHz.
There is the MaliG57 MC3 GPU with a clock speed of 850MHz. The GPU complements the mid-range tag and provides a nice gaming performance. There is also an AI processing or you can say an AI Processing Unit (APU) that works flawlessly to provide camera AI enhancements and other AI computation power.
The chipset comes with support for up to 64MP single camera along with dual camera support for up to 20+16MP and comes with 4K@30fps video capture. For 5G, the SoC has been equipped with the MediaTek M70 5G Modem. This is the same 5G modem that has been used by the company in most of the mid-range 5G mobile processors like the Dimensity 800, and Dim 720.
The M70 5G modem is integrated within the chip with peak download speed of up to 2.3Gbps. It supports Sub-6GHz SA and NSA 5G connectivity along with dual Voice over New Radio (VoNR), and 5G two carrier aggregation (2CC 5G-CA), which should technically bring faster and more stable 5G connections.
For high refresh rate displays, the chip supports it for up to 120Hz at up to FHD+ resolution. The chip has a nice display support profile as there are features like the company’s MiraVision PQ engine with HDR optimization for several kinds of videos plus support for HDR10+ content.
Dimensity 800U AnTuTu Scores
The AnTuTu v8 scores for the available smartphones powered by the Dimensity 800U are pretty decent. The combined average AnTuTu Score for the Dimensuty 800U comes out to be 340000 points.
This AnTuTu v8 scored of Dimensity 800U is pretty nice as compared to the Snapdragon 765G whi9ch has an AnTuTu v8 score of 320000 points. You can say that the Diemnsity 800U is almost comparable to the Snapdragon 768G that has an AnTuTu of 360000.

The specs chart is clearly saying there is not kju8cn difference b/w the SoCs. The density 800U has a slightly highly clocked CPU. There are 2 cores at 2.4GJHz instead of 1 at 2.4GHz and 1 at 2.2GHz as is in the SD 765G. But there is one more thing to consider that MediaTek directly uses the ARM-based cores whereas Qualcomm customizes them a bit for better performance.
The GPUY however, is going to be better in the Snapdragon 765G SoC. The Adreno 620 GPU can perform better than the Mali G57 MC3 in terms of balanced performance including an efficient working manner. However, in raw performance, the Dimensity 800U takes the advantage of the heavy clock speed and hence has higher capabilities of performance.
The deep analysis of AnTuTu scores also supports what I told. The Dimensity 800U is better in the CPU performance although the difference is very minor. However, in the GPU department, the SD 765G is in the lead with an almost equal amount.

As you can see, most of the smartphones are from Xiaomi Redmi and Realme with same or different names based on the region. Realme is also planning to bring the Realme X7 and X7 Pro to India soon, using the Dimensity 800U and DImensity 1000+ chips respectively.
Conslusion: How Good is the MediaTek Dimensity 800U
The dimensity 800U proves to be a really nice mid-range 5G option. The SoC has no performance issues and is giving direct competition to midrange SoCs from the like of Qualcomm. The Snapdragon 765G and Dimensity 800U are really close in performance.
In real life performance you wouldn’t find any noticable difference b/w the smartphones of wither od the chips. But since mediaTek chips comes at a slightly lower price, hence Dimensity 800U is a better value for money package.
