Today, MediaTek has also shifted from the 7nm fabbed processors and the company has launched two new 5G SoCs in its Dimensity series – Dimensity 1200 and 1100. Unlike other flagship mobile processors, Mediatek has shifted from 7nm to 6nm and not on the cutting-edge 5nm. These chips are the company’s first 6nm chips and are also the first to use Cortex-A78 cores.
Dimensity 1200 and 1100 Specifications
The Dimensity 1200 is the premium offering and hence packs a little bit better hardware. However, both the chips consist of the same base hardware. In the dismensity 1200, the CPU has a 1+3+4 manner of distribution with C-A78 cores in the first two distributions and C-A55 in the last one. The clock speeds of these cores are 3.0GHz, 2.6GHz, and 2.0GHz respectively.
MediaTek claims an overall CPU performance boost of 22% and a power efficiency boost of 25% compared to the previous generation.
The Dimensity 1100 has a 4+4 manner of CPU distribution based on C-A78 and A55 at 2.6GHz and 2.0GHz respectively. Hence the prime 3.0GHz core is absent in this chip and the CPU is relying on the dual-cluster architecture of the CPU. But the Dimensity 1100 has the architectural advantage and hence should be better in both single and multi-core performance than the previous generation.
Cooming to the GPU, both the chips use the same one. There is the Mali-G77 MP9 GPU that has been used by MediaTek and there is now support for hardware acceleration in the AV1 video codec.
The Dimensity 1200 supports 168Hz of display whereas the Dimensity 1100 has 144Hz display support. The Dimensity 1200 also has a 5-core ISP that can handle up to 200MP single camera along with HDR support for 4K videos. The chip combines three exposure shots merged into one that increases the dynamic range by 40%.
The Dimensity 100 is similar in HDR capabilities but supports up to 108MP single camera. Both the chips are touted to be 20% faster in processing night shots and have a dedicated night mode for panoramas.
Dimensity 1200 & 1100 Phones
There are claims from many companies that they will release phones with the Dimensity 1200 and 11 SoCs. The list of these companies includes the likes of Realme, Xiaomi, Vivo, and Oppo. The expected release of the Dimensity 1200 and 1100 powered phones is around the end of March, beginning of April.
The current status of leaks and rumors are saying that the Realme X9 Pro, Ulefone Armor 12, and one phone from the Redmi K40 series are highly anticipated to come with the Dimensity 1200 mobile processor.
