It has become a trend to launch a refreshed or special edition version of a product to make it look new in the market. The same is with Qualcomm, as the company has adopted the strategy to launch a plus version of its flagship SoC. Just like the previous year, the plus variant of the Snapdragon 888 has started taking the rumors section. It is being expected that the Snapdragon 888 Plus or 888+ can be seen anywhere in the second half of 2021.
As per the latest post on Weibo from a popular tipster Digital Chat Station, Qualcomm will launch the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 Plus SoC in the second half of 2021. The tipster also shared the reason why the company has locked the GPU frequency of its Adreno 660 on the SD 888 SoC. As per the tipster, this has been to prevent smartphone manufacturers from secretly overclocking the chip on their devices.
As far as the Snapdragon 888 is concerned, the Mi 11 from Xiaomi is already in the line to hit the online store. There are many more other smartphones that are getting ready to make their debut in the market with this SoC. This list of upcoming Snapdragon 888 phones includes the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S21 series, the OnePlus 9 series, Realme Race, and many more.
The Snapdragon 888 has been launched with some pretty great improvements over the Snapdragon 865. It has a new Cortex-X1 performance CPU core and 35% better GPU performance. The AI performance has also gone up to 26 TOPS from 15 TOPS in the SD 865. This can definitely give an idea about how powerful the upcoming SD 888+ will be. However, at present, the Snapdragon 888 powered smartphones are in the pipeline and the SD 888+ is pretty far from our reach.
